Philippines Brings Home 108 Distressed Filipinos From Kuwait

In a commendable display of humanitarian efforts, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait executed a significant repatriation operation on August 14 and 15, 2023. This initiative facilitated the safe return of 108 distressed Filipinos, including two minors, who were facing challenging circumstances. Through the coordination of multiple flights, these individuals were successfully brought back to their homeland, marking a crucial step in ensuring their well-being.

The pivotal role played by the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA) under the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) must be acknowledged. The OUMWA utilized its Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) Fund to cover the expenses of one-way tickets for these repatriated Filipinos. This financial support significantly eased the burdens that these individuals were facing, allowing them to begin anew back in the Philippines.

It's worth noting that a considerable portion of the repatriated group consisted of undocumented workers who had been seeking refuge at the Embassy shelter in Kuwait. These individuals, often facing challenging circumstances, found solace and support within the shelter while they awaited their repatriation. The Embassy's unwavering commitment to their safety and well-being played a crucial role in this successful repatriation mission.

Since the beginning of the year, the DFA has shown steadfast dedication to repatriation efforts, aiding a total of 763 Filipino individuals in returning home. This recent operation, bringing back 108 individuals, contributes significantly to the cumulative number of repatriated individuals from Kuwait in 2023, which now stands at an impressive 5,940.

The collaborative efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait and the DFA resonate as a testament to the government's commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad. As the repatriated Filipinos embark on a new chapter in their lives, they carry with them the support and assistance provided by their homeland.
