Amid growing concerns over a potential electricity crisis in Kuwait, particularly following recent disruptions in various areas, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFED) has stepped forward to reassure the public. The Fund emphasized that the Gulf electrical interconnection project will play a pivotal role in guaranteeing uninterrupted energy security, ensuring sustainability at all times.

Highlighting Kuwait's significant stake in the project, the Kuwait Fund disclosed that the initiative will elevate the capacity supporting Kuwait’s electricity grid to approximately 3,500 megawatts.

Part of broader efforts to enhance Gulf connectivity, the implementation of the project involves the establishment of the 'Wafra Station,' connecting the Gulf Electrical Interconnection Authority’s network to Kuwait's via four circuits with a voltage of 400 kilowatts. The project carries an estimated cost of $270 million.

Currently, the completion rate of the Gulf electrical interconnection project with Kuwait stands at 75%, with an anticipated completion date set for December.

Emphasizing the project's strategic significance, the Kuwait Fund underscored its role in reducing required electrical reserves across GCC countries, providing mutual coverage during emergencies, optimizing surplus energy utilization, and lowering power production costs.

Detailing the project's components, the Fund outlined a dual-circuited antenna line spanning approximately 300 kilometers from Al-Fadili station in Saudi Arabia to the Wafra station. Additionally, the project involves converting the existing double-circuit line between Al-Fadli station and Kuwait's Al-Zour station into a dual-circuit line with a voltage of 400 kV and a length of 25 kilometers.
