Kuwait's First Batch Of 'distressed' Filipino Workers Departs

19 January 2023 Filipinos

First batch of 'distressed' Filipino domestic workers have returned home. These workers lived in government shelters due to disputes with sponsors.

In a report to Al-Rai, sources said Hans Kadak, the Undersecretary of the Philippine Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare abroad, visited Kuwait a few days ago, accompanied by the head of the Foreign Workers Welfare Department, Arnel Agnacio, on the instructions of Susan Ople, who confirmed “there are 421 Filipino workers in Kuwaiti government shelters.”

Kadak took about 50 workers with him when he returned to the Philippines on Tuesday evening, while Arnel Agnacio will accompany about 100 workers upon his return, assuming their travel documents are completed today, and the rest of the workers will be split into two groups.

Based on the increasing number of workers seeking shelter in Kuwait's embassy, there is an intention to study the possibility of a second shelter for workers.
