Four Get 5 Years Jail And A Fine In Visa Sale

The Criminal Court has sentenced an inspector, a citizen, a delegate and a mediator to five years in prison and fined them KD 4,000 for accepting a bribe of KD2,000 to approve 10 residency permits — KD 500 for each permit. The court also acquitted three expatriates of purchasing residency permits. The detectives arrested the accused through entrapment. The bribery was recorded in audio and video, as they agreed with one of the workers to establish a company owned by a citizen. The Public Prosecution charged one of the accused — a public sector employee — with accepting a bribe, while the other defendants negotiated with the accused to obtain 10 residency permits illegally.
