Expats Driving License Will Be Digital Only And Valid For One Year
In line with its ongoing digital transformation initiatives, the Ministry of Interior in Kuwait is set to discontinue the printing of driving licenses for expatriates. Effective from Sunday, December 10th, expatriates will no longer be required to carry a physical copy of their driving license, as the digital version within the Kuwait Mobile ID App will now serve as the official and valid document.
The Kuwait Mobile ID app will display active driving licenses in green, providing expatriates with a convenient way to verify the status of their licenses. Conversely, licenses with a red mark indicate expiration and are no longer considered valid. It is important to note that when traveling outside Kuwait, residents must utilize driving licenses issued by their respective home countries.
To streamline the renewal process, the Ministry of Interior has emphasized that renewals for driving licenses can only be completed through the official MoI website and the Sahel app.
It's essential to highlight that this groundbreaking decision specifically pertains to expatriate drivers, and domestic drivers as well as truck drivers involved in the transportation of goods across borders are excluded from this digital transition. These individuals will continue to be required to carry and present their printed licenses as needed.
