Non-Kuwaiti Teachers To Be Hired For New Academic Year By Ministry
Matrook Al-Mutairi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, has commenced the process of hiring non-Kuwaiti teachers for the upcoming academic year. This initiative encompasses considering second contracts for expatriate teachers and sourcing expertise from among illegal residents. Approval from the Civil Service Commission is pending to appoint dozens of qualified individuals for a three-year term commencing from their date of employment.
In letters dispatched to the bureau, Al-Mutairi specified a salary of 420 dinars for non-Kuwaiti teachers, coupled with eligibility for a housing allowance of 60 dinars. However, a reliable educational source disclosed to Al-Rai newspaper that the ministry's administrative sector has yet to fulfill a quarter of the required number of specified teachers, despite the current employment of 1,600 male and female teachers.
With over 2,000 applicants vying for teaching roles, the submission of applications continues electronically on the ministry’s official website. However, many candidates have not progressed past the interview stage, and some fail to meet the stipulated conditions. Female teachers faced rejection by the Civil Service Commission due to the presence of female citizens registered in the central employment system within the same specialization.
Regarding external contracting, Al-Mutairi indicated that it is not included in the annual plan for this year. Additionally, difficulties have arisen in bringing in some Palestinian teachers contracted since last year due to logistical challenges. Plans are underway to facilitate their entry through Jordan in coordination with the Palestinian embassy, albeit encountering hurdles in leaving the West Bank.
Highlighting future endeavors, Al-Mutairi emphasized a focus on preparing for the next academic year and determining the requisite number of schools, particularly in modern residential areas. Seven schools have been approved in Al-Mutlaa city, with further plans contingent on assessment outcomes.
While reiterating commitment to the annual Kuwaitization plan, the ministry aims to achieve a 30 to 70 percent ratio of national to non-national staff. Presently, Kuwaiti teachers constitute 72 percent, with non-Kuwaiti teachers comprising 28 percent of the workforce.
