Moh Launches A Seasonal Vaccination Campaign
Yesterday, the Ministry of Health launched a seasonal vaccination campaign for winter diseases against infectious respiratory diseases (seasonal influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia), from the Abdullah Yousef Al-Abd Al-Hadi Health Center in the Yarmouk region.
In a speech on this occasion, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, Dr. Buthaina Al-Mudhaf, said that this campaign is launched for the fifth year in a row, and this year comes in special circumstances with the spread of the new Corona pandemic (Covid-19).
Al-Mudhaf pointed to the positive impact of the winter vaccination campaigns, as the number of flu cases decreased, and the death rates from the disease and its complications decreased from 1.3 percent in 2015 to 0.4 percent in 2019.
It stated that the Ministry had administered about 150,000 doses of influenza vaccine and about 75,000 pneumonia vaccines, and expected an increase in the demand for vaccination this year, given that the disease “Covid-19” poses a double threat to public health.
For his part, the Ministry’s spokesman, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, in a similar word, that according to the statistics of the World Health Organization, vaccination currently protects from between 2 and 3 million deaths annually, indicating that there is a decline in global rates of death from measles by 80 percent.
Al-Sanad called for the maintenance of vaccinations that protect society from disease.
He stated that this campaign targets the causes of the most common infectious winter respiratory diseases, such as infection with the influenza virus, specifically influenza A (H1N1 + H3N2), as well as influenza B, and the other most common cause is pneumococcal bacteria (pneumococcal).
He explained that “more than 95 percent of deaths resulting from seasonal influenza are among the groups of people at risk. As for pneumonia (Nemochal), the number of deaths from it annually is estimated at 1.6 million cases, and 85 percent of cases are among adults of the different categories.” At risk. “
For his part, the head of the Preventive Health Department at the Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Al-Saleh, in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the launch of the campaign, called on everyone to take the initiative to take vaccinations from the nearest health center, adding that the ministry was keen to supply 400,000 doses, and more than 100,000 doses were distributed against influenza. And 70 thousand doses against pneumonia at 34 preventive centers, in addition to other vaccination sites outside the ministry in the military hospital and the oil sector hospital, provided that the vaccination is in those centers during the morning period.
