Kuwaiti Government Condemns Burning Of The Quran Copy
Kuwait condemned and denounced the burning of a Quran and the Turkish flag by a group of extremists in Copenhagen, the Danish capital, on Saturday. This new provocative act, which took place in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, risks stir anger of Muslims worldwide, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry warned in a statement. It renewed Kuwait’s principled calls on the international community and relevant governments to take swift actions to counter hatred and extremism and to bring to a halt the repeated offenses against Muslim symbols and sanctities.
According to the ministry, perpetrators of such acts should be held accountable and freedom of expression should not be misused to offend Islam or other religions. There was a need to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all people in the world. The Arab Parliament on Sunday condemned the burning of a copy of the Quran in the Danish capital. Recurrence of such provocative acts foments hatred, violence, and threatens communities’ security and stability, said the parliament chairperson, Adel Al-Asoumi, in a statement.
“The burning of the sacred book is a barbaric act,” he said, noting that the provocative act happened during the fasting month of Ramadan. Al-Asoumi called for dissemination of ideal values such as co-existence and tolerance among peoples of the globe. “Those militants will not attain their vile objectives because the Islamic religion will remain standing, unruffled with such systematic campaigns,” he said, urging the international community to prohibit acts intended to desecrate all religions. Earlier this week, anti-Islam fanatics set a copy of the Quran afire along with the Turkish Flag outside premises of the Turkish embassy in Copenhagen.
A Turkish Foreign Ministry statement on Saturday condemned Denmark's latest desecration of the Quran and Turkish flag. According to the official news agency, Anadolu, the ministry condemned the attack on the Quran and our glorious flag in Denmark in the strongest terms. Such practices are utterly rejected by the Turkish Foreign Ministry under the pretext of freedom of expression.
