Ministry's Audit Bureau Approves Contract For 500,000 Smart Electricity Meters
The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy's audit bureau has given the green light to awarding the tender for 500,000 smart electricity meters, inclusive of installation and maintenance, in its second phase. The ministry's priority of securing the most competitive prices underscores its commitment to advancing energy infrastructure.
Sources reveal that the ministry is poised to finalize contracts with the winning company, initiating supply and inspection operations. This phase will cover installation across various sectors, notably addressing sectors previously underserved, such as private housing.
Furthermore, the ministry's enthusiasm for transitioning from mechanical meters to smart meters stems from the manifold benefits they offer. Notably, these meters promptly notify customers of their consumption, thereby aiding in the reduction of customer dues. Accurate depiction of consumption levels by smart meters curtails unwarranted usage, contributing to improved efficiency.
Moreover, smart meters are poised to streamline operations by mitigating human errors and misreads, while also facilitating budget-conscious spending through prepaid metering options. This empowers customers to manage their expenses in alignment with their financial plans.
One of the standout features of smart meters is their ability to promptly alert maintenance teams to any faults, ensuring swift resolution. Additionally, remote connectivity empowers control over power connection or disconnection, particularly useful during maintenance or in cases of outstanding debts.
Importantly, the remote conversion capability from postpaid to prepaid meters, sans on-site intervention, stands as a significant boon for consumption management, affirming the ministry's dedication to leveraging technological advancements for the benefit of all stakeholders.
