Kuwaiti Engineers Are Attracted To The Housing And Welfare Authority To Meet Demand

11 February 2024 Kuwait Society of Engineers

The Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) is actively exploring strategies to entice Kuwaiti engineers to join its ranks across various sectors, as the authority grapples with a dearth of engineers to meet the demands of future housing projects.

According to a knowledgeable source within the institution, who disclosed details to Al-Rai, the Housing Authority has long faced challenges in securing an adequate number of engineers, particularly in certain specialized fields. This scarcity is attributed to a lack of interest among citizens with civil engineering and architecture backgrounds to pursue careers in the institution.

The source further elaborated that the nature of engineering work at the PAHW predominantly involves field operations rather than office-based tasks, necessitating frequent site visits. With the implementation of initiatives such as the Residential Housing program, aimed at activating housing city projects following new regulations, the workload for engineers is expected to double. This entails overseeing project completion and ensuring compliance with specified standards and regulations, placing additional strain on the institution’s existing workforce.

Given these circumstances, the PAHW is keenly focused on devising mechanisms to attract and retain Kuwaiti engineers, thereby bolstering the national workforce and meeting the escalating demands of housing development projects.
