09 January 2024 Kuwait Society of Engineers

An agreement has been reached between the Society of Engineers and the Egyptian Embassy to encourage Egyptian universities to enhance and maintain their academic accreditation. Furthermore, the accord outlines the importance of ongoing coordination and developing mechanisms for accrediting engineers in alignment with local, regional, and global requirements.

A collaborative effort was forged during the visit of Egyptian Ambassador Osama Shaltout, Consul General Ambassador Dr. Heba Zaki, and other members of the Egyptian Embassy to Kuwait. The meeting focused on issues related to professional engineering accreditation.

The meeting was attended by the Vice President of the Association, Eng. Muhammad Al-Subaie, Assistant Secretary and Board Member, Eng. Hammoud Al-Hadiya, as well as Board of Directors members Dr. Shorouk Al-Jasser and M. Ali Abbas Mohseni. In closing remarks, Ambassador Shaltout praised the Kuwait Society of Engineers as the country's oldest public benefit society and emphasized the importance of the visit as part of ongoing communication. To the benefit of both parties, he expressed confidence that accreditation systems would continue to develop.

Ambassador Shaltout expressed happiness in cooperating with the Society of Engineers in accreditation matters, praising it for its role in accrediting both Egyptian and non-Egyptian engineers. Eng. Faisal Al-Atl, President of the Society of Engineers, affirmed the association’s commitment to international and Arab engineering standards, citing adherence to European, American, and Arab academic accreditation lists.

Al-Atl appreciated the embassy's interest in learning about Kuwait's accreditation mechanisms for engineers, emphasizing the association's commitment to regular accreditation renewal in coordination with the Arab Engineering Education Committee. Engineers in the government sector are accredited by the Kuwait Society of Engineers, not by the Service Bureau.

In addition to stressing the association's commitment to supporting all engineers, Al-Attal also stressed the need for ongoing improvements to accommodate global changes. The Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, endorsed recent efforts to amend the demographic composition, supporting initiatives aligned with Kuwait's development and population needs.

Al-Attal emphasized the urgent need for skilled workers, especially in the engineering professions, in the changing global requirements for practicing engineers. According to him, recent graduates without work experience should be reconsidered, drawing parallels with medical professionals who require five years of experience to achieve licensure.

With respect to electronic certificates, Al-Attal confirmed the association's commitment to continuous improvement, offering electronic certificates as soon as they are issued. The visit concluded with a tour of the Engineers Service Center and testing centers, where the Society's leaders expressed satisfaction with the electronic services provided.
