The New Work Permit Mechanism Is For One Year: PAM
In a recent press statement, Aseel Al-Mazyad, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department and the official spokeswoman for the Public Authority for Manpower, announced significant alterations in the recruitment process for foreign workers. The decision allows for transfer after three years or upon payment of a fee of 300 dinars, contingent upon sponsor approval. Notably, this amendment applies exclusively to workers in the private sector and does not extend to domestic workers.
Al-Mazyad elaborated that the new mechanism eliminates the previous categorization of recruitment rates based on activity categories. Implementation is slated to commence on June 1st, with each company or institution's needs determining the recruitment process. The decision will be effective for one year, subject to evaluation by the Authority’s Board of Directors.
To streamline the application process, work permits can now be obtained through the Authority’s “Ashal” application for business owners, eliminating manual review processes. Additionally, efforts are underway to integrate all services within the “Sahel” application.
Addressing concerns about work permit issuance, Al-Mazyad assured that there is no disruption in the process. However, discussions are ongoing to regulate specific professions exclusively within the Kuwaiti labor market.
In related news, the Authority will observe World Occupational Safety Day on the upcoming Sunday under the theme “Towards a Safe Work Environment.” The event will feature a workshop covering seven topics, with participation from seven government agencies offering insights relevant to their expertise. Discussions will focus on inspection mechanisms, new procedures, and safety methods in occupational safety and security.
This announcement reflects Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing its labor landscape by streamlining recruitment processes while prioritizing occupational safety and security in the workplace.
