Former Mp Accused Of Tricking A Woman To Sleep With Him

The Criminal Court adjourned until Oct 18, 2017 the hearing on a case filed against a former MP accused of tricking a woman to sleep with him. The court decided Wednesday to conduct a closed session during which the accused MP was brought in but he denied the charges. The victim’s lawyer demanded for civil temporary compensation of KD 5,001 for damages caused to his client. The woman said she approached the accused in June 2015 to help her get a job considering he was a public figure as he was a member of Parliament then. She added that he got her number and he started texting her love messages. The Public Prosecution had earlier referred the complaint filed by the female citizen to the Criminal Court, accusing the former MP of tricking her into sleeping with him after promising her several times that he will marry her only to refuse to officially document their customary marriage later.

The Court of First Instance ordered a Kuwaiti citizen to pay alimony of KD 1,800 along with KD 600 as alimony for the waiting period to his ex-wife. The counsel to the ex-wife Lawyer Mohammad Khalil Al-Qattan revealed that his client was divorced without being consulted. He stressed that the alimony amount, as per Article 165 of the Personal Status Law, is estimated based on the monthly expenses and the financial conditions at the time of deserving the alimony. Lawyer Al-Qattan explained that estimating the alimony amount up to the judge but based on the condition that it must not exceed the expenses of one year. He based his defense on Article 161, which is related to the alimony for the waiting period after the divorce, and on Article 163, which states that the alimony is considered as a loan deserved by the divorced wife.
