According to a Kuwaiti official, twenty expatriates were recently deported from Kuwait for major environmental violations.

Kuwait announced in July a plan to deport expatriates who commit serious environmental violations.

"Expatriates who commit environmental violations are deported," said Nada Al Dubashi, head of the Kuwait Environment Public Authority's Inspection and Monitoring Department.

The Interior Ministry has deported around 20 expatriates so far for committing major environmental violations such as disposing of construction and liquid waste in undesignated places and handling chemicals illegally, she told Al Anba newspaper.

If employers guide violating expatriates to dispose of waste at non-designated sites, they will also be penalized, according to the official.

Kuwaiti citizens found to have disposed of waste unlawfully are asked to pay fines ranging from KD5,000 to 20,000, according to Al Dubashi.

Environment inspectors are instructed to hand over foreign offenders to nearby police stations as a step towards their deportation.
