Significant Role By Lawmakers In The Promotion Of Culture Of Tolerance And Accepting Others

A Kuwaiti member of Parliament underlined Monday the significant role by lawmakers in the promotion of culture of tolerance and accepting others. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conference held in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, Walid Al-Tabtabaei called for promoting democracy and respect of human rights. In this context, he sharply lashed out at the serious violation of human rights in Syria, Palestine and Myanmar, not to mention racism against immigrants and foreigners in Europe and US.

However, he claimed that Islam advocates tolerance and respect of human rights, and supports the principles and basics of human rights. A Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation is participating in the 136th IPU Assembly. It comprises head of the Kuwaiti Parliamentary Caucus MP Rakan Al-Nisf, the caucus secretary, Dr Odah Al-Ruwaiee, the treasurer MP Dr. Walid Al-Tabtabaei, members of the executive committee MPs Omar Al-Tabtabaei and Yousef Al-Fadhalah as well as the National Assembly Secretary General, Allam Al-Kanderi.

About 3,980 officials in Kuwait have yet to declare their assets regardless of efforts and notifications they have received from concerned authorities in that regard, and 3,020 others have already done the needful, reports Al-Qabas daily. The daily quoting a source added the majority of officials have declined to abide by stipulations of the rule of law, indicating the officials are not law abiding as they ignore the anti-corruption law and care less about the possible penalties thereof, which shows lack of respect to the country’s laws. He noted the high number of officials who have declined to cooperate with the directive is disastrous, especially as the same officials are in charge of implementing laws! He reiterated the law obliges Public Authority for Anti Corruption to refer defaulters to prosecution and slam appropriate penalties on them. He wondered if it will be possible to fight corruption when the majority of officials who are supposed to be responsible are defaulters.
