MEW Recorded 66 Incidents Of Cable Theft In 3 Years
Sources within the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have disclosed that there were 66 instances of electrical cable theft in the northern region over the past three years, reports Al-Jarida daily. Among these measures are regular patrols conducted by emergency teams along roads where ministry-affiliated lines are located, minimizing vulnerability to theft. Earlier, the ministry faced theft of electrical lines on wooden poles, but collaboration with the Ministry of Interior effectively curtailed these incidents. Continuous coordination with the Ministry of Interior, facilitated by specialized teams, ensures ongoing surveillance and security of these lines.
While some thefts occurred in remote areas near border farms, swift action was taken to address them. The ministry commends the vigilance of monitoring teams and citizens in reporting such isolated incidents occurring at distant intervals. Recognizing the significant impact of cable theft on the electrical network and service distribution to citizens, the ministry is committed to tackling the issue decisively. Effective solutions to this problem involve raising awareness about the consequences of these illegal actions, tightening control measures, and enforcing penalties against perpetrators. The Electricity Company has already taken action by referring cable thieves to the Public Prosecution for legal proceedings
