Philippines President Against Ban On Sending Filipino Workers To Kuwait
Responding to the demands of some lawmakers in his country, Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos Jr yesterday said he was against imposing a complete ban on Filipino workers going to Kuwait. Marcos expressed his reluctance to sever ties, stating that he did not want to “burn any bridges.” He also deemed it inappropriate to “overstate” Kuwait’s recent decision to suspend the issuance of new entry visas to Filipinos. Instead, he emphasized the need for diplomatic negotiations to resolve the issue.
Marcos expressed optimism that Kuwait might reconsider its stance and lift the ban on Filipino workers. He acknowledged that it is Kuwait’s prerogative to set its own rules and regulations, and therefore, the issue remains open to further negotiations. According to Marcos, ongoing discussions and consultations with Kuwait could result in the resumption of sending Filipino workers, specifically those who previously couldn't do so.
