Office Owners Say One-way Ticket Prices For Domestic Workers Fell 60%
The Kuwait International Airport is gaining momentum in terms of daily inbound flights from all countries and the airport returning to full capacity, the boom in the domestic labor recruitment has picked up in light of the limited number of workers available and the more requests from Kuwaiti families and residents in the country.
After continuous complaints from citizens about the increase in the value of ticket reservations for domestic workers due to unavailability of seats, the domestic labor market has seen a breakthrough in the prices of tickets that decreased significantly, unlike the past weeks when one way ticket from Manila cost more than 450 dinars for those who have received the two doses of approved vaccines.
Al-Qabas, in turn, monitored the situation of the domestic labor market during the past few days. Bassam Al-Shammari, the owner of one of the companies, confirmed that travel tickets have fallen again following the opening of direct flights to Kuwait by several airlines, in addition to other airlines offering transit flights with short waiting period.
He added the recruitment offices are currently accepting reservations for new contracts through the safety platform, especially since a large percentage of workers have not received the vaccinations.
Regarding the number of new contracts, Hussein Marzouk, an administrative official in a domestic labor company, said that the recruitment of workers from the Philippines is still limited despite the return of ‘normalcy’ from last June. He pointed out that some offices are able to provide contracts for a total of 150 requests per month, which is a low percentage compared to the number of requests from citizens to obtain domestic labor, while other offices provide labor from India, Sri Lanka and other countries, but their numbers are also limited.
On the reasons for the low prices of ‘one way’ Muhammad Al-Omran, an official of a travel office at Kuwait Airport, said this is due to the conditions put in place by offices for tickets for domestic workers, including refund and change in travel date for a fee while in the case of high cost of ticket, the change is free.
