New Year's Holiday Likely To Be Four Days

Government agencies may get four consecutive days of leave this year as the Civil Service Commission considers announcing Sunday December 31st a 'rest' day. The New Year January 1st is an official holiday which falls on Monday. Since December 31st is a Sunday, which falls in-between an official holiday and a rest day, the Civil Service Commission is considering to make it as rest day, local Arabic media Al-Anba said. December 29th Friday is a government holiday, 30th Saturday is rest day. January 1st Monday is again a public holiday.

Any working day that fell between two holidays used to be given a rest day by the Civil Service Commission. As Sunday, December 31, 2017, was between two holidays - Saturday, December 30, and Monday, January 1, 2018, the commission considered it a day of rest.
