Moi Officials Caught Taking Bribe, Arrested
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt Gen Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah has stressed on the need to combat administrative and financial corruption in various forms and punish the wrong doers without complacency saying the Ministry of Interior continues to strike with an iron fist to eradicate corruption in its departments and elsewhere, reports Al-Rai daily.
This came following the arrest by its intelligence branch an unidentified police officer who with a retired policeman — who now works as a civilian in the ministry — was blackmailing a Syrian and forcing him to give him money.
According to sources familiar with the daily, the Syrian was arrested on charges of running a fictitious company and involved in bulk employment, but he was able to escape law following a compromise with the officer and his civil partner after paying about 10,000 dinars.
However, the sources said this did not end there, the duo continued to harass the Syrian and asked for more money and a second time the latter ended up paying a huge sum of money.
When the duo repeated their demand for a bribe for a third time, the Syrian filed a complaint and the Criminal Investigation Department formed a team to monitor the trio and the officer was caught red-handed while his partner managed to escape.
The sources say this new issue may lead to other related issues and a number of people may be involved in similar corruption cases. Earlier the Interior Ministry had put its hand on a similar corruption case about the involvement of a ministry official and a relative who were involved in blackmailing hotels to rent cars from a company owned by them and pressuring them through the suspension of transactions related to the visit visas to Kuwait issued to these hotels.
