25 October 2023 Kuwait

In a significant development, the Council of Ministers granted approval to a pivotal draft decree aimed at advancing Kuwaitization within government contracts. This decree mandates the Kuwaitization of private subcontractors engaged in government projects, signifying a profound step toward prioritizing the national workforce in state-related ventures. The brainchild of Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, the Chairman of the National Demographics Committee, and the esteemed First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, this initiative seeks to revamp labor contracts within the public sector.

This groundbreaking decree carries the lofty objective of fostering employment opportunities for Kuwaiti citizens, effectively bridging the gap between available job roles and qualified local talent. In adherence to this initiative, subcontractors are obliged to recruit competent Kuwaiti candidates for their contractual obligations with government entities.

For the benefit of job-seeking Kuwaitis, the decree outlines a set of lucrative incentives. It mandates that Kuwaiti employees receive a minimum monthly salary of KD 450, which also encompasses the labor support allowance. Additionally, this wage package entails an annual salary increment of 30 dinars for employees with an excellent rating and 20 dinars for those with a very good rating. Furthermore, Kuwaiti employees can expect to receive an annual bonus, enjoy a generous 40-day paid leave, and receive provisions for plane tickets. To ensure the well-being of their families, employees are entitled to private health insurance coverage.
