Kuwait To Philippines “we Will Not Allow Philippines To House Workers In The Embassy”
Kuwait warned Philippines that the embassy of Philippines in Kuwait is violating the labor law by accommodating Filipino workers inside the embassy building which is against the labor law and will not allow it to be repeated in near future specially after the signing of the joint agreement between both the countries reports Al Qabas.
This clause was signed by the Philippine authorities who represented the visiting delegation last Sunday, and was included in the minutes of the meeting of the Joint Committee regarding the employment of domestic workers, during which Kuwait affirmed the need to cancel the center for Filipino workers housed in the embassy headquarters, and to deal directly with the General Manpower Authority in relation to their problems , provided that they are sent immediately to the domestic workers employment department at the authority to ensure their protection and take the necessary legal measures.
The minutes included a new clause added to the fifth article of the tripartite employment contract, and related to the obligations of the second party – the employer – where the domestic worker is allowed to own a phone and use it after working hours, provided that he/she maintains the family’s secrets and privacy in a manner consistent with public morals. It was agreed to prevent the employer from assigning the domestic worker any work outside Kuwait without her consent, and if forced, the sponsor is obliged to return her to her country at his own expense.
The seventh clause will also be applied according to the general provisions of the tripartite employment, that the employer is prevented from retaining the worker’s passport and Civil ID and pledging to both parties to fully comply with the standard dual and tripartite contracts after adding the above.
The minutes emphasized the necessity of the Kuwaiti and Philippine parties’ commitment not to sign contracts or other pledges other than the standard bilateral and triple contracts.
