Proposal For Residential City South Of 6.5 Ring Road Rejected Over Railway And Metro Conflicts

04 May 2024 Kuwait

The General Authority for Roads and Land Transport has rejected a proposal for a residential city south of the 6.5 ring road, citing conflicts with ongoing railway and metro projects.

The Kuwait Municipality has received feedback from various government entities, including the roads authority, Ministry of Transport, and Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority, in response to a proposal put forth by 12 members of the Municipal Council. The proposal aimed to designate land for a housing project south of the 6.5 ring road and the West Abdullah Al-Mubarak area.

According to the municipality, discussions with the roads authority revealed that approval for transferring the railway station, as outlined in the proposal, was unfeasible due to delays in the tender process. However, regarding the metro station, it was clarified that the authority's jurisdiction does not extend to this matter.

Furthermore, the municipality contacted the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority, which stated their inability to comment on the potential transfer of the metro station mentioned in the proposal due to jurisdictional constraints. Similarly, the Ministry of Transport indicated that the issue of relocating the metro station falls outside their purview.
