In Egypt, A Grade-9 Girl Commits Suicide After The Death Of Her Parents

Local media reported that a grade-9 girl committed suicide by hanging herself after her parents passed away.

In Faiyum Governorate, a 14-year-old girl ended her life by hanging herself with a rope in her room. The deceased’s sibling said that her sister had been in depression for some time due to her parents' death. The media did not give any reasons for girl's parents death nor when they had died.

It recommends measures to reduce suicide rates, such as spreading mental health awareness and encouraging individuals to seek psychological assistance, according to Egypt's National Council for Criminal and Social Research.

According to the Egyptian Institute for Studies, Egypt has the highest suicide rate in the Arab world, followed by Sudan, Yemen, and Algeria. In 2019, 3,022 people committed suicide in Egypt.
