Expatriate Teachers' Services Will Be Terminated

28 December 2022 Education

Dr. Hamad Al-Adwani, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Minister of Education, stated that the ministry is continuing its policy of Kuwaitization and empowering Kuwaiti colleagues in administrative and educational institutions, as directed by the government to implement the policy in accordance with the Kuwaiti constitution.

Al-Adwani stated that the educational plan towards Kuwaitization policy included two main steps. Firstly, the supervisory positions of department heads need to be Kuwaitized urgently, by determining the specializations to be Kuwaitized based on the number of Kuwaiti candidates on the waiting list, as well as an estimate of how many Kuwaiti candidates will be eligible for candidacy this year, based on the ministry's needs for local skills.

Second, the official noted that non-Kuwaiti teachers will be terminated in specializations where local candidates are available in appropriate numbers, according to each region's educational needs. As a result, Kuwaiti teachers and Kuwaiti children of Kuwaiti women will be able to access these jobs, he said, which will result in increased employment opportunities.

In the field of education that has been fully Kuwaitized, the number of non-Kuwaitis is less than 25%, while specializations where non-Kuwaitis exceed 25% will be Kuwaitized over a period of more than one year. Depending on the percentage of Kuwaitis and non-Kuwaitis in each specialization, Al-Adwani said it varies.

Additionally, he said that after this year's final exams, several non-Kuwaiti teachers will be terminated from public and private schools, as well as special education schools. This will be in specializations with a large number of citizen candidates available, while expressing appreciation for the efforts and dedication of all non-Kuwaiti workers within the ministry. Al-Adwani received auditors on Monday to complete the open door policy with citizens to listen to their concerns.
