Cid Major General Has Formed A Special Team To Confront Hackers

In response to the recent cyber attacks on some state agencies particularly vital and sensitive institutions as well as banks, the Acting Director General of Criminal Investigation Department Major General Mohammad Al-Sharhan has formed a special team to confront hackers based on instructions from the top leaders of Ministry of Interior, reports Al- Qabas daily.

According to a security source, the team, which is called “Cyber Security”, consists of eight officers specialized in protecting networks and information technology systems in government and private agencies in order to prevent penetrations. The team will provide technical support on 24/7 basis to protect vital informational infrastructure in the country. Its tasks are focused on risk control, dealing with electronic attacks, analyses of evidences and malware, and examination of gaps and penetration tests.

The team, since its formation, has been dealing with well-organized external cyber attacks that targeted local banks, ministries and government and private sensitive bodies. It succeeded in ensuring the protection of privacy of data, whether governmental or civil.

The team also succeeded in closing the Twitter account called “Black box”, from which rumors and sedition were being spread. It also identified the mastermind behind the account called “Sheikh”, which has been spreading confusion and sedition. It was discovered to belong to a Kuwaiti businessman who was seized and referred to prison based on orders of the Public Prosecution
