Call For Safe Driving And No Burning Of Charcoal Inside Camps

25 November 2023 Kuwait

The director of the Medical Emergency Department, Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti, has warned about the number of cases of road accidents and carbon monoxide suffocation during the winter camping season. A total of 86 ambulance centers have been established throughout the country, as well as 200 ambulances and five medical clinics in remote areas to deal with winter season accidents. A televised statement from Dr. Al-Shatti stated that the department is prepared to deal with potential incidents in the winter season, confirming the arrival of 80 new ambulances. During this period, all technical and administrative capabilities and cadres were mobilized to cover emergency events.

To deal with the daily reports and incidents it receives, Dr. Al-Shatti confirmed the provision of about 3,000 emergency medical technicians, administrators, and auxiliary medical services. According to him, 300 to 350 reports are received per day during the winter season, indicating that deaths occur either due to road accidents or suffocation from carbon monoxide gas inhaled from half-burnt coal. Dr. Al-Shatti stressed the need to be careful when driving, maintain the permitted speed limits on the roads, pay attention when lighting charcoal inside the camps, and make sure not to leave it burning inside the tent while sleeping since it can cause fainting, coma, and death.
