Women Total 23 Among 260 Candidates – Cutoff On Nov 4

The Elections Registration Center on Saturday received the applications of 21 citizens – four of whom are women – who intend to contest the 2020 National Assembly Elections slated for Dec 5, 2020.

Out of the 21 candidates who registered on Saturday, two men and one woman will stand for elections in the First Constituency, one woman in the Second Constituency, two men and one woman in the Third Constituency, five men in the Fourth Constituency, and eight men and one woman in the Fifth Constituency. In addition, the center catered to 19 candidates – all men – on Friday.

One of these candidates is seeking a parliamentary seat to represent citizens residing in the First Constituency, five in the Second Constituency, seven in the Third Constituency, one in the Fourth Constituency and five in the Fifth Constituency. So far, the number of candidates has reached 260 – 237 men and 23 women. The last day of registration for candidates is on Nov 4, 2020.

Former MPs Homoud Al-Khudair and Khalaf Demaitheer Al-Anzi were among those who filed their candidacies on Saturday. In another development, former MP Riyadh Al-Adasni pointed out his grilling motion against Minister of Finance Barrak Al-Shitan prevented the implementation of economic document, which is aimed at eliminating some of the citizens’ rights. He warned the minister against taking advantage of the absence of the Assembly to push for the implementation of the economic document, stressing that problems will not be solved unless the expenditure of the government is rationalized.
