Whatsapp Is Soon To Stop Offering Unlimited Chat Backup Storage: Things You Can Do

16 November 2023 Technology

Soon, WhatsApp will ask Android users to backup their chats using Google Drive.

Previously, the social media messaging platform offered unlimited storage for chat backups on Android devices. Now, the application will be asking Android users to utilize their own storage space, just like iOS users.

Those who have lots of multimedia files in their chats may be concerned about this, since those files are large.

Since Google provides only 15GB free storage, users must keep their chats under 15GB.

Additional storage will have to be purchased through Google One if more backups are desired.

You can cope with the change in the following ways:

Make sure that you have deleted large files from your chats before backing up your data. Photographs, videos, and even documents can be included in these files.

You can review and delete these files easily by simply going to your WhatsApp settings and clicking on ‘Storage and Data’. Then, click 'Manage Storage' to see all files larger than 5MB.

Several users have photographs and videos that may have been forwarded to them.

Click on 'Forwarded Many Times' under 'Manage Storage' (see above) to find files that have been forwarded multiple times.

In order to avoid chats taking more space, you can turn on disappearing messages.

When this is turned on in individual chats, they will be automatically deleted after a certain amount of time.

Besides the three things above, you can also find and delete old chats (especially group chats).

You can also go to your archived chats and delete those in order to free up some space.
