Tips To Secure Your Digital Life With A Hack-proof Smartphone
It's common for users to rely on their smartphones for tasks other than making calls and sending texts in an era when smartphones are ubiquitous. Keiran Burge, a security consultant at Prism Infosec and a professional hacker, warns that mobile device security may be deceptive.
Recently, Burge, who specializes in testing companies' cybersecurity, revealed common mistakes that could expose users to exploitation by hackers within seconds.
Burge emphasizes the importance of keeping devices up-to-date with the latest software. The security risks associated with out-of-date software are significant, since updates often fix vulnerabilities. As Burge says, "if the software has been updated, it's probably because there's a security issue," making regular updates essential to protecting against potential attacks.
Burge warns against password reuse as another risky practice. Multiple sites using the same password can lead to serious security vulnerabilities. It is important to use unique passwords on different sites because hackers may gain access to other accounts if one platform is breached.
Burge also emphasizes the importance of exercising caution when sharing information online. The extent of personal information shared can contribute to security risks, making it crucial for users to evaluate and minimize their online disclosures.
When a company is breached, there's usually a big database dump on the dark web," warns Burge, emphasizing the real-world consequences of security breaches.
For individuals in their day-to-day activities, particularly concerning online interactions, Burge suggests careful consideration of the information shared. Smartphone users can significantly enhance their mobile device security if they stay vigilant, keep their software updated, avoid reusing their passwords, and minimize the amount of information they share online.
