Un Official: Kuwait Is One Of The Most Peaceful Countries In The Middle East
Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Kuwait, Dr. Tariq Al-Sheikh, said today, Monday, that Kuwait has been and will remain a cornerstone in preserving, spreading and strengthening the culture of peace in the world, as it provides a global model for spreading and strengthening the culture of peace for a long time.
In a press statement on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, which falls on Tuesday, Sheikh added that Kuwait’s position has increased significantly in the global ranking from 42 in 2018 to 36 in 2021, compared to the previous year, noting that Kuwait is among the most peaceful countries in the Middle East. And North Africa, and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries according to the results of the Global Peace Index “2021 GPI”.
He explained that this global model of Kuwait, in spreading a culture of peace, has proven in many cases that the solution to the global challenges facing the world, especially our region, is peace.
He indicated that this was also evident through Kuwait’s internal and external policy, its tireless efforts and its relentless work to promote peace and security in the Arab region and the world at large.
He added that Kuwait has spared no effort in making decisions, especially in issues of concern to the Arab region, and maintaining international peace and security, noting that Kuwait has reaped the fruits of its efforts to resolve the Gulf crisis after 3 years of its role as a mediator to end the Gulf crisis.
In this regard, he referred to Kuwait’s pioneering efforts during its non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council, during which it worked to promote a culture of peace by drafting and proposing several resolutions calling for a ceasefire in Syria.
