Despite the Cabinet’s decision to allow entry into the country for non-Kuwaitis vaccinated with two doses of approved vaccines as of Sunday 1 Aug, an official source at Kuwait International Airport revealed to Al-Qabas that the Cabinet’s decision recently issued to open direct flights with 14 countries faces implementation difficulties.

The source said that there are about 7 travel destinations (America – Rome – Milan – Vienna – Greece – Morocco  and the Maldives) threatening to stop direct flights with them, despite the issuance of the approval of the Council of Ministers to operate flights to them, explaining that linking the limited seats to 5,000 per day.

Daily passenger arrivals daily makes it difficult to implement the decision, pointing out that the rest of the routes such as Turkey, Geneva, Switzerland and others do not stand affected.

The source pointed out that the implementation of the cabinet decision requires a secondary decision to raise the operational capacity of the numbers of arrivals to the country until the skies are opened with Arab and foreign travel stations, noting that the matter requires an initial increase of 10 thousand passengers arriving per day, according to what was recently demanded by the civil aviation authorities.

The source added that the airline companies’ association with the “quota” set for the number of arrivals to the country makes them suspicious of the start of direct flights to these countries, despite their ability to operate flights to them, but on the other hand, if flights are operated to these destinations, this will affect the capacity of the others routes.

Passengers coming from active stations, which are witnessing a heavy traffic of travelers, especially Istanbul, London, Riyadh, Geneva and Paris.

In this direction, the Director of the Air Transport Department at the General Administration of Civil Aviation, Abdullah Al-Rajhi, warned against canceling confirmed passenger reservations and claiming that civil aviation did not approve, which is far from credible, as the seats were specified for all airlines, but some of them were granted reservations above the number allowed in violation of the laws.

In this context, sources in the tourism and travel sector revealed to Al-Qabas that thousands of tickets booked through the systems of some airlines have been cancelled, as a result of the limited seats coming into the country.

He said that some airlines have increased the number of allowed arrivals, as tourism and travel agencies have given reservations for tickets that are higher than the capacity allowed by civil aviation, but after warning them to abide by the permitted seats, the offices were informed by the airlines that thousands had been cancelled.

This raised a state of discontent among travelers after they booked and arranged their travel, and then they were surprised to find their travel tickets cancelled for reasons not related to them, calling on the Council of Ministers to urgently raise the airport’s capacity.

According to the sources, the repercussions of canceling tickets and the return of residents directly contributed to the rise in ticket prices, which amounted to huge amounts, which creates a new crisis for stranded people and the difficulty of returning citizens to the country.

He pointed out that the desire of thousands of residents to return to the country, especially those coming from Egypt and India, which are witnessing a heavy turnout of those wishing to return to Kuwait, made the prices of tickets for “transit” flights reach astronimical prices ranging from 350 to 600 dinars due to the failure to open the airspace. with banned countries.
