Summer Vacation Should Be Canceled
In spite of the hot weather, MP-elect Hani Shams recommended canceling the summer vacation of Parliament, as citizens have been waiting so long for ratification of important bills. He said the most important bills submitted to the 2022 Parliament are ready for voting, especially since most of the members of the nullified Parliament retained their seats; hence, the required majority is available. He added that ratifying the urgent bills would determine the extent of the government’s cooperation with the legislature.
Manaf Al-Hajri, Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs, and the governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait were urged by MP-elect Majed Al-Mutairi to reduce the interest on deposits. He pointed out that his request is aimed at reducing the extra deposits in banks and encourage individuals to put their money in investments. He believes the interest reduction will help defaulters pay their loans. MP-elect Muhammad Al-Mutair disclosed that his top priority is to amend the Constitutional Court Law in order to foil attempts to nullify the Parliament. MP-elect Fayez Al-Jomhour asked the Civil Service Commission (CSC) chairman to form a committee to investigate the exams of applicants for legal jobs. He said rumor has it that the exams were made to match the laws of Jordan, not Kuwait.
The MP-elect Muhammad Hayef Al-Mutairi invited his colleagues to a meeting in his diwaniya on Monday to discuss the 'Nation's Agenda Document'. These priorities include political reform bills, such as the amendment of the National Assembly Law, Election Law and establishment of the Higher Commission for Elections. The priority economic bills include the establishment of the North Economic Zone, cancellation of exclusive local agencies, and reform of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The freedom related bills include the amendment of the Remand Law, disqualification of candidates and amendment of the Publishing and Printing Law.
Among other priorities are amending laws regarding the Civil Service Commission and the Constitutional Court, restructuring salary scales, amending the Private Sector Law, and allowing citizens to work in both public and private sectors. Additionally, the document emphasized the need to address the housing problem by combatting plot monopolies and establishing shareholding companies to build residential cities.
