Several Egyptians Denied Boarding Due To Immigration Fine

27 March 2020 Coronavirus

Egyptians who were intending to leave Kuwait today were in for a rude shock when they were asked to pay fines for overstaying their visa, Al Rai newspaper reported today.

Out of the 397 Egyptians scheduled to depart only 308 could travel because the rest could not arrange payment for their fines for over staying in the country. Some of the Egyptians, who were on family, visit and business visas, could not arrange the money and were left stranded as there were fines imposed for their overstay.

Only a few managed to pay the fines and were able to board the flight which departed in the afternoon today. The Minister of Interior has waived all fines for overstaying persons from April 1 to 30 and as the flight departure date was March 27,  the waiver was not applicable to them.

More flights are scheduled in the coming days and the issue of paying fines will crop up again as all passengers departing before April 1 would be subject to the fines. This technicality has caused losses and inconvenience to the passengers.
