Paci Official Sentenced To Five Years In Jail For Bribing For Civil Id Card

24 October 2023 Civil ID

In a significant legal development, the Court of Appeals has confirmed the verdict in the PACI bribery case, resulting in a 5-year prison sentence and a KD 212,000 fine for an official at the Public Authority Civil Information (PACI). The case also saw two of the official's associates, one Egyptian and one Bangladeshi, each sentenced to three years in jail.

This case came to light following reports received by the Director General of PACI, who received information about the issuance of Civil ID cards in exchange for monetary payments by the main suspect.

The illegal operation was facilitated by a Bangladeshi worker employed by a cleaning company and an Egyptian security guard working at the PACI headquarters. Suspicion was raised as transactions involving monetary exchanges were tracked through the civil identification numbers and the automated card issuance system. This insightful tracking uncovered the involvement of department employees and ultimately led to the arrest of the suspects.

Justice prevails as the legal system maintains its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring transparency.
