Overbooking Airlines Get Stern Warning

01 August 2021 Travel

Director of Air Transport Department at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Abdullah Al-Rajhi has affirmed that measures are being taken against airlines canceling confirmed reservations; pointing out some airlines continue to process reservations more than the permitted number of passengers — a violation of the DGCA directive in this regard; thereby, impeding travel to and from Kuwait International Airport, reports Al-Rai daily. “We noticed that many airlines canceled confirmed reservations, citing non-approval of the DGCA. This practice is a deviation from the credibility or professionalism on the part of these airlines.

The number of seats was specified for all airlines, but some are still booking more than the allowed number of passengers,” Al-Rajhi explained. Accordingly, a passenger whose confirmed reservation is canceled by the airline has the right to file a complaint at the Complaints Division in the Air Transport Department; provided he submits the required documents like the plane ticket, payment receipt and passport photos to take the necessary action against the erring airline through the Complaints and Arbitration Committee, Al-Rajhi added.
