Personnel from the General Department from the Citizenship and Travel Documents have arrested two Syrians for paying KD 99,000 to Kuwaitis to help their seven sons obtain the Kuwaiti citizenship, reports Al-Rai daily.
The sources pointed out the incident happened in 1998 when a Syrian paid KD 55,000 to three Kuwaitis to add his 4 sons to their files following which they were able to take all advantages provided by the State to the citizens.
;The source added the father after his sons acquired the citizenship settled in Syria but visited Kuwait to renew his residence permit prior to completion of six months outside the country. The source added the father was arrested shortly before he left the country and his one son, working for the Ministry of Defense was handed over to the security authorities. Another son is believed to be in the United States studying on government scholarship.
The father then guided the police to a compatriot, who is married to a Kuwaiti woman and he played the same game and paid KD 44,000 to two Kuwaitis to add his three sons to their files. The source added the compatriot was seized in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and it is believed he owns several gas stations in Syria and has a good business in Kuwait and that one of his sons is working for the Kuwait Air Force and the other two have obtained bank loans.
