Needs Campaign To Educate Travellers On The Laws And Culture Of Other Countries
In view of the large number of people travelling to other countries for the summer holidays, the concerned governmental bodies have launched a number of soft campaigns to educate the public on matters concerning them; but MP Mohammed Al-Dallaal believes that more should be done in this regard.
He said the governmental bodies, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, should conduct a campaign to educate travellers on the laws and culture of other countries frequented by Kuwaitis.
The MP explained there is a big possibility that Kuwaiti travellers will get in trouble with authorities in the countries they visit due to ignorance of these countries’ laws and culture, while others blatantly disregard such laws and this attitude negatively affects the reputation of Kuwait.
He also pointed out these kinds of issues are unnecessary burdens on the shoulders of Kuwaiti embassies abroad and a waste of time which should be used for more important diplomatic work. For this reason, the MP submitted a number of proposals to address the issue.
His first proposal is for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwaiti embassies abroad and other concerned authorities such as the Ministry of Information and Directorate General of Civil Aviation to coordinate their efforts in conducting a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness of travellers on the laws, culture and general do’s and dont’s in the countries they are visiting.
He also proposed that the authorities should provide all means for diplomatic representatives in Kuwaiti embassies abroad to create a platform through which they can inform Kuwaiti tourists about important matters.
Additionally, the MP suggested that the concerned authorities should create official accounts on social networking sites to convey messages to travellers and collaborate with travel agencies to integrate informative guides in the services they offer to travellers. Although the MP’s directive did not come due to footages of Kuwaiti tourists acting ignorantly in other countries, the issue tarnishes the reputation of Kuwait; while the more mindful and respectful Kuwaiti tourists suffer backlash of such acts.
