Mpw, Part On High Alert To Tackle Challenges Posed By Rainy Weather
The Ministry of Public Works has formed emergency teams which have been deployed around the clock in the six governorates to face challenges posed by the rainy weather in several areas including internal streets.
The ministry indicated all human and material capabilities are on standby and contacts have been established with the companies which have maintenance contracts with the ministry, in addition to pressing in service suction pumps and submersible pumps especially in areas which are prone to flooding in the event of heavy rainfall as it happened in some areas such Muhammad bin Al-Qassem Street and Nasser al-Hamad in Omariya and Sabah Al-Nasser, between Block 1 and 2, and a number of other areas in the Jahra Governorate.
The sources pointed out Minister of Public Works and the Minister of State for Housing Affairs Dr. Rana Al-Faris is closely following up by situation in the country and has been busy visiting several areas since Saturday to boost the morale of the employees. The ministry said artificial lakes built by the ministry in Ahmadi Industrial Area and South Sabahiya prevented some areas being fl ooded. On the other hand, the sources at the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PART) confirmed its teams worked hard to ensure the flow of traffic and that to ensure rain water does not ‘flood’ highways.
However, the sources pointed out the emergency teams of the PART dealt with water which had collected on the Kabd Road, the area linking the Sixth and the Seventh Ring Roads with the help of suction pumps. The sources indicated the Authority’s emergency teams were present at the Al-Mangaf tunnel to ensure the smooth fl ow of traffic and also at the Qairawan tunnel.
The sources indicated some water had collected on the Fifth Ring Road but the ministry used suction pumps to remove the water and also ensured that rain water does not collect and hamper the traffic fl ow at the Al-Ghazali tunnel. The sources pointed out the artificial lake built near the intersection of the Seventh Road with Kabd in Sulaibiya prevented the repetition of the 2018 disaster.
