The CEO of the Kuwait Oil Company, Imad Al-Sultan, has requested the Director of the Directorate- General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Yusef Al-Fawzan, to allow 4,054 employees working for the Kuwait Oil Company, and those working for non-Kuwaiti contractors and are stranded outside the country due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and according to instructions issued by the Ministry of Health. He added the KOC is facing a severe shortage of workers in drilling operations, in light of the exceptional circumstances that the country is going through due to the pandemic. He indicated the nature of the arduous drilling operations necessitates replacing the labor of the current contractors’ companies with others from outside the country periodically (approximately every monthly). He demanded the exclusion of the workers from the cabinet decision, which includes preventing entry of non-Kuwaitis according to DGCA Circular No. 7/2021 issued on February 4 in this regard.
On the other hand, Al-Seyassah learned from informed sources in the Ministry of Education that the ministry is preparing lists of the names of its stranded teachers, after it obtained the approval of the Supreme Committee for Corona Emergencies in the Council of Ministers on the request of the Minister of Education Dr. Ali Al-Mudhaf for the return of all teachers stranded in their respective countries. The sources confirmed that the ministry is working to take the necessary measures for the return of those stranded, and to discuss a mechanism to renew residence permits of teachers whose residencies have expired while outside the country because they were unable to enter due to the “Corona” crisis, and the closure of the airport.
