Kuwait Considers Linking New Work Permits To Expatriate Health Facilities
Sources within the residency sector of the Ministry of Interior reveal that the advisory committee overseeing demographic issues has proposed a significant linkage between the expansion of work permits for foreign workers from multiple countries and the establishment of health insurance hospitals and dispensaries for expatriates.
According to these sources, the committee has thoroughly evaluated a report submitted by the responsible company, detailing the construction and operation progress of three hospitals and twenty dispensaries. Efforts are underway to operationalize these facilities and ensure adequate medical staff, in coordination with the Ministry of Health. However, no specific timeline has been outlined for the completion of this process.
The committee emphasized the crucial need to synchronize the expansion of the labor market with the availability of proper health facilities for expatriate workers. Failure to do so, warned the committee, could lead to increased pressure on government healthcare facilities.
Additionally, the committee is closely monitoring reports on the residency sector, particularly the number of violators expected to regularize their status or leave the country within the grace period set by the Ministry of Interior, ending on June 17.
Security estimates indicate that the current number of violators, comprising various nationalities, ranges between 120,000 to 140,000, underlining the urgency of addressing these issues promptly.
