Social Media Shocked At India’s Refusal To Accept Repatriated Bodies

24 April 2020 Coronavirus

The Indian government's decision to ban repatriation of dead bodies in cargo flights from Gulf countries to India draws large criticism from the expatriate community in Kuwait.

Currently, there are bodies of many people in Kuwait's mortuary who are not dead due to COVID infection. Various social activists are completing the process of repatriating these bodies in the wake of the Covid 19 outbreak and surviving many adverse events. However, the sudden decision by the India government to stop receiving bodies in Cargo flight put them in trouble.

"The Central government is treating the expatriates with a vengeful attitude," KALA Kuwait said in a statement. KALA Kuwait had already completed all the formalities of two such bodies, which has completed the embalming process and were ready to be transported to the airport for repatriation. However, on the last minute, airline company staff said that they were directed not to send the body in flight. The Bureau of Immigration has orally instructed all airports that permission of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs should be sought in advance for this. The Kerala Art Lovers Association (KALA) has urged the Central government to immediately withdraw the decision to not accept the bodies of the deceased who were not infected with COVID 19.

However, Indian media, citing sources from the Indian government, claimed that this procedure is only on a temporary basis and the ban was imposed as part of preparing guidelines for bringing bodies to native places.
