Higher Electricity Charges Will Lead To Judicious Consumption Of Energy
Undersecretary of Ministry of Electricity and Water Mohammad Bu Shehri expects to see the positive effects of the new electricity charges in the next three months, reports Al-Jarida daily.
He believes the higher electricity charges will lead to judicious consumption of energy, affirming the ministry will announce positive results in September 2017 which coincides with the end of the peak period. He said the consumers will enjoy better services and he urged them to save energy in vacant places such as their homes during the day.
Director of Technical Censorship and Head of Gulf Campaign for Conserving Energy Eqbal Al-Tayar explained the campaign was made possible through cooperation with the Civil Defense represented by a team of volunteers. She pointed out the campaign aims to raise public awareness on the importance of rationalizing energy in shopping malls, adding the campaign contributed to reduction of electricity consumption in malls by about 40 percent.
In another development, Deputy Director General for Applications and Allocations at Public Authority for Housing Welfare Ahmad Al- Hedab revealed that officials from the sector have reviewed and verified housing applications submitted from 1985 to 1995 as a preliminary move, indicating that the last data update was carried out in 2005, reports Al-Qabas daily.
;Al-Hedab said a team within the authority reviewed those files based on direct instructions from the State Minister for Housing Affairs Yasser Abul and under the supervision of the Director General of the authority Eng Bader Al-Waqyan. He affirmed that the need for updating applications registered with the authority was due to the changes that often occur with the applicants such as social status or real-estate ownership.
Al-Hedab stressed that the team in charge of review of housing applications and update of data for disbursement of rent allowances has verified and reviewed all files that existed since 2016. He indicated that the team was able to review all registered applications within a year, and dealt with all data and its conformity to the data available with the Information Systems Center by coordinating with the relevant authorities without necessarily contacting the concerned applicants.
