For The Second Time New Zealand Celebrates The Elimination Of Corona
New Zealanders celebrate the elimination of the deadly Corona virus for the second time, as health officials announced the end of restrictions in Auckland with the recovery of the last six infected residents and the absence of new cases within ten days.
And as of midnight Wednesday, Auckland restrictions have been lowered to the first alert level - to join the rest of the country.
Changing restrictions will mean there is no limit to 100 people for public gatherings and there are no rules for spacing out at restaurants.
Three injuries were recorded during the past 24 hours, but these are all in quarantine at the hotel.
As part of the celebrations, the All Blacks will be able to garner a huge crowd to cheer on when they compete with the Wallabies on October 18th.
For his part, Health Minister Chris Hipkins said: "The news of the elimination of the Corona virus was a milestone for the country ... New Zealanders celebrate again through their collective actions after they crushed the virus."
He emphasized that the systems developed and strengthened since the first wave of COVID-19 have worked very effectively to chase, isolate and eradicate the virus.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said there is a 95 percent chance that the virus is not in the community because the country has not recorded any local cases since September 24.
The second wave resulted in 186 new infections among residents and forced Ardern to return the city to a state of strict lockdown.
The number of deaths due to the pandemic in New Zealand has reached 25.
