A Kuwaiti Government Staff Who Got A Job With A Fake Degree Will Be Forced To Return Their Salary
A Kuwaiti newspaper reports that Kuwait's government agencies will examine their employees' degrees in order to spot fakes and take legal action against them.
Al Qabas quoted government sources as stating that the scrutiny would target degrees issued from abroad and cover tens of thousands of Kuwaiti and foreign employees at government institutions.
The sources explained that if there is any doubt about the authenticity of any certificate, it will be sent to the Ministry of Higher Education for verification.
Sources said that if an employee's certificate was found to be false, legal action would be taken, with the suspect to be referred to prosecution "immediately" and obligated to return all salaries and financial benefits. High school and university degrees will be scrutinized.
Kuwaiti criminal court sentenced a female member of the ruling family to three years in prison after she forged her university degree to increase her salary earlier this year.
Al Qabas said the court also ordered the sheikha whose name was not disclosed to pay a fine of KD150,000, equal to the salary she had received from her job at an unnamed key ministry because of the fake degree.
A punitive fine of KD150,000 was also imposed on the defendant.
In addition to ordering the defendant to pay back all the salary money she had received through forgery, the court established a new rule that the accused in such cases cannot be forgiven for other offenses.
