34 Year Old Egyptian Taxi Driver Accused Of Kissing Tourist’s Hand And Molesting Her
A driver has been accused of groping a nurse and kissing her hand, while she was on a visit to Dubai, after he picked her up from the airport at 4.30am. The 34-year-old Egyptian driver, S.S., was said to have groped the Korean tourist and held her hand and kissed it twice while driving her from Al Maktoum International Airport in August.
Prosecutors accused S.S. of kissing the tourist’s hand and groping her and charging her more. The defendant pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspect abused the fact that the Korean woman was seated in front when he molested her. He was also accused of embezzling Dh62 from his employer, the extra amount which he took from the woman. The nurse claimed to prosecutors that she took a private driver from the airport and asked him to drop her at Oud Metha.
“I took the front seat because I wanted to see Dubai’s landmarks during the ride. The suspect chatted with me for a while before he told me that I was good-looking. He asked to touch my hand but I refused. Suddenly he grabbed my hand and kissed it … I let go of his hand quickly and asked him not to do that again. I was so scared. Ten minutes before we reached our destination, he pulled over in a poorly lit area.
When he tried to grab my hand again, I pulled it away. Then he placed his hand on my thigh and top. I pushed him away and ordered him to take me to the hotel. I was too frightened to cry for help as we were in a deserted place and it was very late and dark. Then I asked him to give me his contact details to call him later. He also took Dh62 more than initial tariff. Shortly after he dropped me at the hotel, I told the receptionist what had happened … then I was advised to report the matter to the police,” she testified.
A policeman claimed to prosecutors that they identified the defendant from he contact number that the Korean woman provided them.
“The suspect was summoned and, during questioning, he admitted that he groped the woman and touched her hand and kissed it against her will. But later when he did it the second time, according to S.S.’s statement, he claimed that he was apologising. The woman claimed that the suspect kissed her hand 10 times,” the policeman testified. A ruling will be heard soon.
