According to a Kuwaiti newspaper, Kuwaiti police are investigating allegations made by three Indian expats that they fell victim to online fraud.

Al Anba newspaper reported that the trio told police they had been lured to the scammers by a Facebook advertisement.

An online post advertised an instant financial loan and encouraged prospective borrowers to go to a certain telecom office within a mall.

On arriving there, the self-styled victims received KD120 each, but were forced to sign two-year subscription contracts with a mobile phone service provider. It turned out that the contracts required them to pay five times the amount they had received.

In Kuwait, a country with around 4.6 million foreign residents, Indians make up one of the largest expatriate communities.
