12 Kuwaitis Defrauded In Elaborate Fraud Scheme

08 November 2023 Crime News

According to 12 citizens over the age of 60, the Farwaniya Governorate Search and Investigation Department (Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Office) has been tasked with apprehending a citizen and an expatriate.

According to a security source, the complainants reported to the Jleeb police station that they had received phone calls informing them they had won prizes in a supposedly legitimate drawing. The gifts would be delivered free of charge to their homes.

The informants explained that the promised gifts were delivered the same day as the call, and a representative asked them to sign a receipt confirming receipt. Unsuspecting citizens complied.

They soon found themselves facing financial claims ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 dinars. After inquiring about these debts, they discovered that the representatives had tricked them into signing a document stating they had received items, which was supposed to be the value of the items. According to the informants, they are now debtors to a company that sells devices.

Further investigations revealed that the company responsible for these fraudulent activities is located in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area and is managed by both Kuwaitis and expatriates. Scam operations targeting elderly people are being conducted by these individuals.

Authorities will investigate how the company acquired personal data of citizens who fell victim to this fraud. They will also verify the whistleblowers' claims of victimization by this fraudulent scheme.
