Travel And Tourism Offices Suffer Kd8 Million Worth Losses Per Month

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Tourism and Travel Offices, Muhammad Al-Mutairi, revealed that the average operating losses of 450 travel offices during the Coronavirus pandemic amounted to KD88 million, at a rate of KD8 million per month, Al Qabas daily reported

The Cabinet’s decision to prevent expats entry to the country for two weeks, except for first-degree relatives and domestic workers, workers registered on the ‘BelSalamah’ platform, medical staff and diplomatic missions has started at Kuwait International Airport.

The airport witnessed a state of calm as it received passengers coming to the country, with the technical and health staff at the ready to monitor their entry from the time they got off the plane and passed the medical examination procedures until they left the airport gates.

The total number of flights reached 65, including 33 departures and 32 arrivals, including 5 from Dubai, 4 from Istanbul, 2 flights from Doha, and a flight from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

The airport is faultless 

Al-Mutairi told Al-Qabas that the airport is faultless and not responsible for the increase in coronavirus infection cases, and there is no need for closure, especially in light of the strictness in conducting tests on arrivals to the country, who undergo two PCR tests, in addition to conducting a third test that will be applied soon to all travelers arriving in accredited laboratories with the condition for institutional quarantine for 7 days in a hotel.

He added that the phenomenon of PCR certificate forgery by some travelers will disappear with the connection of the accredited external laboratories with the Ministry of Health, in light of the limited numbers of arrivals. He noted that with all these procedures, the process of entering Kuwait has become stricter, and there is no need to close again, and the process of raising the airport operation rate is logical and easy with the increase in the frequency of vaccinated Kuwaitis.

Passport

Al-Mutairi highlighted the necessity of establishing a protocol and a healthy passport for those who have vaccinated in order to allow them to return to their normal lives, and to facilitate travel to push economic activity again.

He explained, “Since the institutional quarantine decision, which begins on the 21st of this month, has become a condition for every comer to enter the country, we demand that institutional quarantine hotel reservations for those coming to Kuwait be through travel offices in an attempt to provide them relief from their accumulated losses.”
