System Soon To Streamline Solving Workforce Issues - Experienced Workers Eyed
Deputy Director General of Public Authority for Manpower Abdullah Al-Mutawtah affirmed the lack of issues that the diplomatic missions in Kuwait discussed with the authority, as they are in continuous and direct communication with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and not with authority.
Regarding banning expatriate workers under the age of 30 years and without certificates of diploma or higher from entering Kuwait, Al- Mutawtah clarified that those who do not hold these certificates are not governed by the decision, adding, “The objective of the decision is to ensure labor force with adequate experiences enter the country so that their experiences can be benefitted from”.
Concerning labor force that is not diplomatically represented in Kuwait, he affirmed that the authority receives complaints from these labor force and deals with them, adding that coordination will be established with the closest embassy in the GCC region, especially for cases that require renewal of travel documents.
Al-Mutawtah affirmed that Kuwait is honored to host about 1,600,000 workers of various nationalities. He said, “Kuwait is not Utopia. Errors can happen especially in the work process. Some of these errors could be intentional”, reiterating “Issues concerning domestic labor fall under the Domestic Labor Department of Ministry of Interior, not the authority”.
;However, he said the authority gladly responds to any inquiries and requests from the diplomatic missions, indicating that some of the missions are confused about the role of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and that role of Public Authority for Manpower.
He stressed that the authority can explain to them what was agreed upon after the establishment of the authority in 2013 regarding its role and objectives. In a press statement he issued on the sidelines of an open forum with representatives of diplomatic missions in Kuwait at Sheraton Hotel, Al- Mutawtah declared that a system will be launched which will enable online filing of absconding reports, and the facility to send messages between the employers and employees concerning all work aspects will be activated.
He warned that the initial implementation of any electronic system might encounter some glitches, even though the authority is keen to follow up the process of the new system in order to avoid any faults or errors, indicating that the system will enable employees to get notification about any case filed against them by their employers.
